ABOUT JEFF

A community-minded educator, proud to call Sherwood Park home

Who is Jeff?

I am a community-minded educator and use the pronouns he and him. I am proud to have called Sherwood Park home for over 13 years (and Alberta home my whole life). My motivation for seeking the NDP nomination here in Sherwood Park is driven by the desire to both counteract the detrimental policies of the current government and to strengthen Alberta’s future by ensuring:

  • well-funded and well-supported public education and healthcare

  • strong, immediate action to combat climate change

  • diversification of our economy to keep pace with the rest of the world

Sherwood Park deserves an MLA who will do the work of building relationships, finding common ground, and fighting for the best interests of everyone, especially our children, seniors, and most vulnerable. I am seeking the nomination because I want every person in Sherwood Park to feel they have a voice and are heard in the Legislature. You deserve this, and I will work hard to make it a reality.

For the last 15 years, I have followed my passion for education as a teacher in Slave Lake, Ryley, and Tofield, Alberta. I have had the pleasure to work with the most amazing and diverse students and staff who have shaped my life in innumerable ways. One of my strongest convictions is that youth are our most valuable resource and deserve a well-funded, well-supported public education system.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I spent several years working for Alberta Parks as an educator at Lesser Slave Lake, William A. Switzer, and Dinosaur Provincial Parks. In this role, I continued to fuel my passion for the environment and conservation as I opened others’ eyes to the beauty and fragility of our ecosystems.

I have a passion for volunteerism which has included coaching and organizing extracurricular activities in my school communities, participating in Volunteer Strathcona’s Snowbusters and Lawnbusters programs, and coaching for the Sherwood Park District Soccer Association. I have also been an active member in the Sherwood Park NDP Constituency Association for nearly two years and have participated in many outreach activities for the Sherwood Park NDP since 2015.

I am committed to a life of learning and have worked hard to earn a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Conservation Biology and a Bachelor of Education degree. More recently, I earned a Masters of Education degree in Educational Studies.

My family and I live in “the birds” in Sherwood Park where I enjoy working in our garden, cycling, walking, and working on various home renovations. Outside of the Park, I can often be found at my family's cabin, nestled in Alberta’s foothills near Hinton, enjoying being close to nature.

You deserve to have your voice heard in the Legislature! I hope you will support me in securing the Alberta NDP nomination for Sherwood Park. If you want to get involved or would like to learn more about what I would bring to the role as your NDP candidate, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
